Operated by the City of Richfield
Taft Park is best known for its fishing and offers a variety of family-friendly amenities including play equipment, picnic areas, a one-mile walking path around the lake, sports fields and courts, and ice rinks in the winter. The Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail travels through the park. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are also available on the lake through Paddle Share, an online reservation system where you can reserve a watercraft and pay for rentals online.
Taft Park is operated by the City of Richfield.
Three Rivers' Contributions
Three Rivers Park District and the City of Richfield partnered to install a first-in-the-Twin Cities accessible dock that allows wheelchair users to transfer to kayaks and launch them in Taft Lake using a system of rollers. The partnership between Three Rivers and the city also included construction of an accessible path to the dock, as well as installation of an iPaddlePort self-serve paddle equipment rental station.
The iPaddlePort was partially funded through a Hennepin County Youth Sports Grant, and it contains one- and two-person kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and the appropriate paddles and life jackets. The iPaddlePort allows people to reserve paddling equipment via an app on their phone or on iPaddlePort.com.
In 2020, Three Rivers added a small playground along the regional trail in the southern part of the park.
Things To Do
Throw a line for your own catch of the day. In Three Rivers, you might reel in muskie, northern pike, sunfish, bass or even walleye.
Recreate on the water with canoeing, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Get exercise and fresh air while you explore the shorelines and bays where motorized boats can’t go. Need a boat? Three Rivers offers canoe, kayak, rowboat, paddleboat and stand-up paddleboard rentals at several parks.
Make new memories eating al fresco at a Three Rivers park picnic area in a beautiful, natural setting. All sites have picnic tables, and most sites have other basic amenities including water fountains and permanent grills. Look for a peaceful, serene location or set up just steps from a rip-roaring play area.
Create new memories at our play areas. Three Rivers has multiple areas designed for varying ages and abilities where toddlers to teens can let their imagination run wild. Monkey business never sounded so fun.
