Dakota Rail Regional Trail Construction
February 24, 2017
Beginning Jan. 1, 2017, Metropolitan Council Environmental Services has closed the Dakota Rail Regional Trail between Commerce Boulevard (County Road 44) to just east of Westedge Boulevard in downtown Mound until Oct. 31, 2018. A designated trail detour will be provided during the closure. See further details at the MET Council project website.
- The closure is expected to last from Jan. 1, 2017 - Oct. 31, 2018.
- No pedestrians/cyclists will be allowed in the construction area. This project involves pile driving, tunneling, and the digging of a 16-20' deep trench in which a new sanitary sewer main will be installed.
- Hennepin County will be installing bike lanes along the shoulder of County Road 15 west of Commerce Blvd. Trail users east of Commerce Blvd. will be allowed to use city sidewalks along Shoreline Drive. A map of the detour route will be posted at each end of the detour.
- Detour signs for the route will not be in place during winter months (Nov. 15–March 31) due to snow plowing. A map of the detour route will remain and users can decide to bike/walk the roadway shoulders.
