Sensory-friendly Services at Three Rivers

June 06, 2019

At Three Rivers Park District we understand that new experiences can be stressful — especially for people with sensory sensitivities. We strive to create true belonging and inclusive experiences for everyone in our community.

We partnered with the Autism Society of Minnesota and gathered input from the community to inspire positive adaptations for our park programs and spaces.

Beginning June 2019, Three Rivers will offer Sensory-Friendly Sundays at French Regional Park in Plymouth. Explore the building, play area and trails during designated calmer times. See dates and times

You can expect the following support at French to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone:

  • Three Rivers staff who have received training from the Autism Society of Minnesota and additional inclusion volunteers or staff on site during Sensory-Friendly Sunday events.
  • Sensory support kits to borrow that include: noise-reducing headphones, ear plugs, nose plugs, sunglasses, variety of fidgets, weighted blankets, and other sensory supports.
  • Quiet space to take a break.
  • Digital social narratives designed to prepare you for your visit and virtual tours of facilities.

You are welcome to bring your own fidgets or other sensory supports to the park.
